PILLAR
Pillar is a wayfinding system built for the Pillar Point Intertidal Zone in Half Moon Bay, California adjacent to Mavericks. The system investigates a world where the anthropocene is the widely accepted ecological epoch, and works to suggest a way of interacting with nature that encourages understanding that humans and nature are inextricably linked.
The project was made in response to the dominant western attitude that humans exist outside of the natural world and is represented through a website and redesigned physical signage. Perspective for the project was created through reading (books listed in ‘Engage’ page of website) and frequent qualitative research trips to Pillar Point.
Made in Collaboration with Devan Ponce with advice from Mary Ellen Hannibal.
