SLAM Ventures is redefining the venture capital landscape, challenging an industry where women-led companies receive just a fraction of investments despite their proven success. During our ideation sessions, the client presented a unique challenge: how to merge the boldness of their name, "Slam," with the organic, feminine qualities they envisioned. Their inspirations ranged from the symbolism of a ginkgo leaf to the timelessness of logos like Kodak and British Railways. Balancing these elements became our north star, with the ginkgo leaf as our primary source of inspiration, guiding us toward a visual language that could embody both strength and grace.
With the ginkgo leaf as the foundation of the design, I began tracing and scanning real leaves, capturing their unique shapes and ribbed textures to reflect growth, resilience, and balance. Just as the ginkgo leaf grows in layered patterns, SLAM's investment philosophy—viewing each investment as a building block—naturally aligned with this design direction. This insight shaped the logo, allowing it to embody a dual nature: a more fluid and feminine form when seen as a singular unit, and strength and structure when combined into modular blocks. This approach perfectly captured SLAM's forward-thinking, women-led ethos.
The final logo design drew directly from the ginkgo leaf’s form, creating a modular system that balances strength and elegance. Each element was crafted to embody fluidity and fierceness: sharp angles representing focus and direction, while softer curves conveyed calm and empathy. Using the traced forms, we constructed a modular system, exploring how the shapes could tessellate into various patterns. This modularity allowed the identity to extend seamlessly across different mediums, from digital platforms to printed materials, ensuring that SLAM's brand remains cohesive yet adaptable. This visual system positions SLAM Ventures as a distinctive force in the venture capital space, embodying both vision and integrity as they build their presence in the industry.
